Import Your Job Search Spreadsheet Into a Tracker

Download your sheet as CSV, match the column names, fix the status words, and import it into Job Log. A filled example with 8 rows.

To import the sheet you already use, download it as a CSV and click Import CSV in the free Job Log tracker. Columns match by name, and any status Job Log does not know becomes Applied, so fix those words in the sheet first.

Which column names does it match?

Per the Job Log FAQ, the importer looks for these headers:

Job Log fieldAccepted header names
CompanyCompany
RoleRole, Position or Title
LinkLink or URL
Date appliedDate applied or Date
StatusStatus
Next stepNext step
NotesNotes

If your headers are "Job" and "Site", rename them to Role and Link before you download. There is also a blank template (CSV) on the Job Log page if you would rather paste your rows into it.

What happens to my status words?

Job Log has six: Applied, Received, Interview, Offer, Rejected, Closed. Any other word becomes Applied. That is the one import step that can quietly change your data, so check it before you click.

What does it look like with 8 rows?

Say your sheet has these Status values, one per row: Applied, Applied, Received, Interview, Rejected, Phone screen, Waiting, Ghosted.

If you import as is, the three unknown words (Phone screen, Waiting, Ghosted) turn into Applied. You end up with Applied 5, Received 1, Interview 1, Rejected 1. That adds to 8, but the row that was a phone screen and the row that went quiet now look like fresh applications.

Rename them in the sheet first and the counts stay honest:

Your wordChange it toWhy
Phone screenInterviewInterview means a call is booked
WaitingAppliedApplied means sent
GhostedClosedClosed means you stopped, or the role closed

After the renames: Applied 3 (2 + Waiting), Received 1, Interview 2 (1 + Phone screen), Rejected 1, Closed 1. That is 3 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 8, and every row kept its meaning.

Steps

  1. In your sheet, rename the headers using the table above.
  2. Replace your status words with the six.
  3. Write dates as YYYY-MM-DD.
  4. Download the sheet as CSV (in Google Sheets: File, Download, CSV).
  5. In Job Log, click Import CSV and pick the file.
  6. Count rows by status and compare with your sheet. Eight in, eight out.

After you import

Job Log stores the list in your browser on your device, so export a CSV now and then as a backup. To go the other way, the Job Log page has a short Use it with Google Sheets section: Export CSV, then File, Import, Upload in Sheets.
